Katie, a teenager who makes films, has a ticket to college. Rick, her outdoorsy dad, does not get her. They row. He cancels the plane and announces a family road trip instead. Linda, mum, tries to keep the peace. Aaron, the younger brother, is along for dinosaurs.
Theme. A parent taking away a plan feels like punishment even when the film later calls it love. Kids may side with Katie and still feel Rick's panic.
What to say. You might say: 'Katie wants to go. Dad is scared of missing her, so he dumps the flight. That is a bad move and the film knows it. We can sit with the row or jump to the road.'
